Three ways to power a heat pump water heater

The 240-volt design is the original and most common configuration — 402 certified models — and is "the most common type of heat pump water heater", requiring a dedicated 240-volt outlet, which makes it a straightforward swap in a home that already has an electric water heater. The 120-volt design (68 certified models) is newer and plugs into a standard household outlet, avoiding an electrical panel upgrade — useful when replacing a gas water heater or when a 240V circuit isn't available. Why the "easier" option isn't automatically the cheaper one
