The terms, in plain English
By using WattCost you agree to these terms. They exist to be clear about what this site is — running-cost estimates computed from public data — and what it isn't.
Estimates, not promises
Every cost figure on this site is an estimate: certified annual energy use under standardized DOE test conditions, multiplied by a state-average electricity rate. The methodology page explains exactly how, including the limitations. Real usage, your utility's actual rates, and time-of-use pricing all vary — use these numbers to compare appliances, not to predict a bill. Purchase decisions are yours; nothing here is professional, financial, or engineering advice.
Accuracy and availability
We work hard to compute correctly from the source data, and every page names its data vintage — but the site is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. Source datasets contain errors, models get delisted, and rates change. If you find a number that doesn't match its source, tell us and we'll fix it. To the fullest extent permitted by law, WattCost is not liable for decisions made, or losses incurred, based on the information here.
Data, content, and trademarks
- The underlying datasets are public: EPA ENERGY STAR certified-product data and US EIA electricity rates, both US-government publications.
- Our compiled dataset (the crossed cost figures) is released under CC0 — use it freely, though a link back is appreciated. The site's text and design are © WattCost.
- ENERGY STAR is a registered trademark of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. WattCost is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the EPA, ENERGY STAR, the EIA, or any appliance manufacturer. Brand and model names appear only to identify products.
Acceptable use
Don't misrepresent our estimates as measurements or as manufacturer claims, and don't access the site in ways that degrade it for others (for bulk data, the upstream sources publish everything we use). Links to external sites are provided for reference and aren't endorsements.
Changes
We may update these terms as the site evolves; the date at the top reflects the latest revision, and continued use means acceptance. Questions? Write to support@wattcost.app.
